Drifting electronic tones slide over each other as synthetic percussion bubbles through the streams. Whilst electronic, the sounds that Mukai makes are not cold or cynical and retain a wavering organic quality as they maneuver in and around each other. Drones form the core of each of the enigmatically named tracks as if the overlapping layers and resulting overtones emerge and subside to be joined by sonar like beeps or marching rhythmic patterns.
The minimal synthesis of the tracks and omnipresent ripples delay gives the arrangements a spatial quality, as if the listener is witness to the movement of vast forms as they float in space or at sea. This could easily be the soundtrack to some lost science fiction animation – similar in tone to Luc Ferrari’s work on Chronopolis, albeit more minimal.
